Global whisky exports rose from $12.77B in 2019 to $14.70B in 2023—an increase of 15.12% over five years. The sector reached its highest value in 2022 at $14.94B before seeing a slight dip in 2023.

This upward trend reflects strong and sustained global demand for whisky, driven by premiumization, rising interest in high-quality spirits, and the growing appeal of whisky as a luxury and collectible product. Although exports dipped in 2020 due to the pandemic, the market rebounded swiftly, supported by emerging markets and evolving consumer preferences.

Top Trading Countries

  • United Kingdom continued to dominate the whisky export market with $7.16B in 2023, up from $6.43B in 2019—an 11.4% increase. A slight decline of 1.94% followed in 2024, bringing exports to $7.02B.
  • United States exported $1.53B in both 2023 and 2024, rising from $1.19B in 2019. This represents a 28.45% increase from 2019 to 2023, with minimal movement (0.26%) between 2023 and 2024.
  • Singapore reached $1.01B in 2023, up from $921.78M in 2019—a 9.3% increase. Exports dipped slightly by 1.25% to $997.36M in 2024.
  • Ireland continued its steady climb, rising from $924.46M in 2019 to $1.00B in 2023 (8.32% growth), followed by a notable 12.8% jump to $1.13B in 2024.
  • France recorded $474.24M in 2023, up from $308.89M in 2019—a strong 53.53% growth. Exports then dipped by 5.75% to $446.99M in 2024.
  • Netherlands grew from $391.38M in 2019 to $418.95M in 2023 (7.04% increase), followed by a further 1.55% rise to $425.44M in 2024.

On the Rise

  • China saw exponential expansion, with exports jumping from $7.72M in 2019 to $65.24M in 2023—a massive 744.99% increase. Growth continued with a 6.02% rise to $69.16M in 2024.
  • Italy increased exports from $83.22M in 2019 to $107.31M in 2023 (up 28.95%), followed by a major 34.59% surge to $144.42M in 2024.
  • India rose from $109.98M in 2019 to $145.33M in 2023—a 32.15% increase—and continued climbing by 19.29% to $173.37M in 2024.
  • Spain grew from $126.46M in 2019 to $157.52M in 2023 (24.56% rise), then increased further by 9.39% to $172.31M in 2024.
  • Belgium expanded exports from $93.14M in 2019 to $119.79M in 2023 (28.61% growth), followed by a 10.21% rise to $132.01M in 2024.

These countries reflect strong upward momentum, with China and Italy standing out as rapidly emerging powerhouses in the global whisky export landscape.
